Build with Symbio

Introduction

Symbio brings every shell, remote session and file tree into a single grid. Instead of juggling tabs, windows and SSH strings, you orchestrate everything from one surface — and hand off the busywork to an AI agent.

Installation

Install Symbio with your preferred package manager. Builds are available for macOS, Linux and Windows.

Quickstart

Launch Symbio and open your first pane. The command palette (⌘ K) is the fastest way to do anything.

# open a project in a new window
symbio ~/code/my-app

1. 1Press ⌘K to open the command palette.
2. 2Type 'Split pane' to create a second shell.
3. 3Type 'New SSH session' to connect to a saved host.
4. 4Press ⌘I to summon the agent and describe a task.

Multishell

Run local shells, remote sessions and long-lived processes in one grid. Split panes infinitely and broadcast a single command to all of them.

SSH connections

Save hosts, jump boxes and identity files once, then connect instantly with live status indicators. Symbio handles reconnects so you never paste a connection string again.

File explorer

Navigate project trees, preview files and make quick edits without leaving your workspace — across local disks and any connected SSH host. Drag and drop to sync files between machines.

Agent modes

Describe the outcome and let the agent execute across panes and hosts. Choose the level of autonomy that fits the task.

Works with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, local models and any OpenAI-compatible provider.

Command palette

Split panes, open SSH sessions, summon the agent or jump to any file — all from one fuzzy palette. Open it anywhere with ⌘ K.

Keybindings

Symbio is built so your hands never leave the keyboard.

Workspace panels

Every panel in Symbio can be placed side-by-side with any other. Open as many as you need — the grid adapts automatically.
